CMPOA Meeting minutes for the 4/8/2009 board
meeting.
The April, 2009 meeting of Columbine Manor Property Owners Association (CMPOA) meeting was held at the home
of Joe and Liz Wuest on April 8, 2009. President Darrel Del Duca called the meeting to order at approximately 7:15 PM.
Hiroo Shiba volunteered to write up the minutes in the absence of the Secretary, LuAnn Mcguire.
Attendees: Members present were Bob Engel, Joe Wuest, Joe Steinbach, Darrel Del Duca, Jim Barnhill and
Hiroo Shiba.
Treasurer’s Report (Reported by Joe Wuest):
- Balance: Ending Checkbook Balance as of 03/31/09 was $6,990.30. This balance was based on adjustments
after expenses were paid out from the 2009 Winter Social/Annual Mtg.
- Membership Dues: Two (2) membership dues were paid for the month of March, 2009. This brought
the total CMPOA membership as of 03/31/09 to 120 (same as last year at this time).
- Trash Removal Information: Total number of participants as of 03/31/09 was 117. Total paid out
to Waste Management: $14, 265.63 (representing 116 households).
Old business:
- Last Month’s Minutes: Approval of the March board meeting minutes was passed as first
order of business.
- Waste Management/Annual Dues: As a follow-on to the Treasurer’s report, the board discussed
various possible course of action regarding non-paying member(s) for trash removal service. One possible action that was discussed
was to simply contact Waste Management to exclude specific address(es) from the pickup route.
- Neighborhood Cleanup: Darrell reported on cost of two different scenarios for the annual trash pickup
(by Waste Management):
Option 1: Have Waste Management make a special neighborhood cleanup run.
Cost: $2,000
Option 2: Rent one (1) Roll-off to be parked on one of the circle streets.
Cost: $500.00
Based on the cost comparison, option 2 was selected. The board discussed conducting possible neighborhood
metal recycling as one way to generate additional revenues for the association, with members volunteering to pickup scrap
metal throughout the neighborhood or having volunteers monitor the roll-off to redirect recyclable metal into designated member-owned
trucks. Joe Steinbach is to talk to the metal recycler for additional information.
The board also discussed sponsorship of a neighborhood garage sale for this year and decided against it.
- Plant Sale: Darrell Del Duca reported that no plant ordering catalog is available yet. It will be
distributed when available.
- Yard of the Month Awards: This will begin starting in June.
- Easter Egg Hunt: Originally slated for Saturday, April 4, it was postponed due to inclement weather.
It was rescheduled for Saturday, April 11.
- Neighborhood Watch Signs: At last month’s meeting, Hiroo Shiba reported seeing graffiti on
the "Crime Watch Neighborhood" sign on the South-East entrance to the neighborhood and took action to contact the Sheriff’s
office. The sign was cleaned by the county as of 04/09/09.
New Business:
- Summer Picnic: Joe Wuest reported that Scheid’s Catering (located where the old 7-11 store
used be) charges $9.00/person which include beef, pork, chicken and side-dishes. Joe also reported that Schneid’s optionally
offer meats per pound. This option, if selected, would require members to bring side-dishes to the picnic. Joe is to get additional
information. Joe reported that Robert’s Deli was looked at, but was deemed too expensive and was not considered.
- Annual Budget Review: Joe Wuest reported on various overage and underage from the Winter
Social event, but overall the association is under budget for the year.
- CMPOA updates: The board discussed updating the CMPOA with new membership. Jim Barnhill is updating
the directory information on several new neighbors.
- New Topics: The board discussed honoring select neighbors with the "CMPOA Good Neighbor" award for
exemplary acts for the good of the neighborhood. A candidate was selected to receive this new award.
The meeting adjourned at approximately 8:25 PM. The next board meeting scheduled to be held on May 13, 2009
at the home of Jim and Marilouise Barnhill at 5029 Fremont Ave.
Respectfully Yours,
Hiroo Shiba,
